Victory: Congress votes down the Extinction Rider! Dear Friend, Great news for threatened animals! Yesterday, the House voted to strike the radical 'Extinction Rider' from the Interior and EPA appropriations bill.1 Your pressure played a huge role in this victory, sending a strong message to your representative that throwing threatened species under the bus was totally inexcusable. In less than 24 hours, more than 50,000 people signed the petition which we delivered to Republicans and 20 Democrats with less-than-stellar environmental records. In all, 37 Republicans stood up for threatened animals, and only two Democrats — California Rep. Dennis Cardoza and Minnesota Rep. Collin Peterson — crossed the line to put the the interests of corporate polluters and big developers ahead of endangered species. This victory is a surprising bit of sanity from the House of Representatives, and a welcome affirmation of our nation's firm commitment protecting our abundance of animal diversity. It's also a great reminder that your pressure at key moments really can make a big difference. And we'll need that pressure again soon, as the House resumes its regularly scheduled program of radical environmental and economic insanity. Thanks for your action to defend threatened animals.
