Dear Randal,

Please join PETA,
Animal Defenders International and
Juliette West, the star of
How I Became an Elephant, in celebrating the first annual
Elephant Awareness Day on August 3! Elephant Awareness Day was established in Juliette's honor, and we are gathering before the next Los Angeles City Council meeting in Van Nuys to urge the council to support Councilmember Paul Koretz's efforts to protect elephants and other wild animals who are used in circuses and other traveling acts.
We'll start the celebration one hour before the meeting (please wear red), and you're encouraged to go to the meeting afterward and speak briefly during the public comment period to let the council know that you support a ban on the use of elephants and other wild animals in circuses (even if you would rather not speak, your support attending the meeting and wearing red is appreciated):
When: Friday, August 3, 9-10 a.m.
Where: Van Nuys City Hall, 14410 Sylvan St., Van Nuys, CA 91401 (Please meet on the public sidewalk on Sylvan Street in front of City Hall; see this
map).
Contact: Eric at
EricD@peta.org or 323-351-0188
All posters and leaflets will be provided, and please note that reserved parking will not be available.
If this is your first time attending an outreach event—or even if you're a pro—please read
our handy tips. We welcome everyone to come out as these events are a fun and upbeat way to help animals.
For all animals,
